We've been doing a whole series of interviews with all of the 2021 Music For Kiddos Symposium’s speakers on the blog and the podcast to get a preview of what they are going to present at Symposium. Today, we are ending this series with our keynote speaker, the absolutely incredible queen of children's music, Laurie Berkner. She has a hundred million or more views between YouTube and streams on Spotify and all of the other streaming services.
She is somebody that my daughter really loved her music. The kids that I worked with always really loved her music as well. I always just really got a kick out of it because it is so musically communicative. What I mean by this is, when she shifts her movements in her songs, she does things like shifting the time signature, the tempo the volume and shifting the way that she plays guitar, which is what I have discovered as a music therapist, a music educator, and songwriter that makes kids pay attention and helps kids to have so much fun in music. In her keynote presentation at the Symposium, she is going to be talking about everything engagement, songwriting, participation, keeping kids excited about music, and then just her process of not only writing songs, but the way that she implements them live with kids.
We interviewed Laurie Berkner on the Music For Kiddos Podcast, and here’s a little bit of what she will be talking about during the Music For Kiddos Symposium:
“What I will be sharing is basically some of the songs that I have written and why I think they work and how to use them with kids, in some different settings. A little bit about if you're someone who wants to create songs for kids, what you might consider thinking about. And then again, when you are using these songs with kids, what I think about them actually helps engage the kids and keeps them engaged.”
