I'm a little late getting this post up. Why? HALLOWEEN IS NOT MY FAVORITE.
Kind of strange, considering that I went ALL OUT on costumes as a kid. They were completely crazy and off the wall and nobody ever stopped me. One year, I insisted on being a cup of soda. Not a can of soda (somewhat normal??)... a CUP of soda. Essentially a trash can with labels and a straw. And then, as if things could get worse, I wanted to get the most candy possible and wore rollerblades to trick-or-treat. I'm sure everyone can imagine what happened next and yes, it involved me falling and rolling down the street.
As I'm writing this, I just realized that this may be the source of my current dislike of Halloween. I'M TRAUMATIZED!!
{Sidenote: Can you IMAGINE being the adult answering the door to the cup-of-soda-me struggling with my trash can and rollerblades? Comic relief for days!}
When Halloween comes around, the music therapist in me is always searching for songs that are engaging enough for a wide range of ages, have musical depth, and have lyrics that are challenging yet developmentally appropriate.
I needed a new song this year, so I wrote one about a Shy Little Monster who needs some help from his fellow costumed friends. My friend Sarah Pilar drew him for me. Isn't he the cutest?
