What to teach this month in your preschool and kindergarten music classes:
1- “happy, happy hummingbird” by stephanie Leavell
Happy, Happy Hummingbird is a calming and focusing song that is perfect for spring. Happy, Happy Hummingbird is a simple fingerplay with hand gestures that help increase engagement and encourage participation. Kids can sing the "humms" and get in some calming breaths. Happy, Happy Hummingbird is also a great transitional song. You can try this as a transition to reading a book or a more academically challenging song. The calming and focusing nature of this song will help them be ready for what's next! 🌷
2- “This hat” by laurie berkner
In May, we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, Nurses Week, and International Firefighters Day (May 4th). Add on more lyrics and bring some props like hats, a toy stethoscope, tools, and other props to depict different community helpers!
3- A melody for the book “Little Blue Truck”
A melody for the popular children’s book ‘Little Blue Truck’ by Alice Schertle. This is a great book for preschool & kindergarten music class, and would go along perfectly with a Transportation lesson plan or theme.
4- “Chugga Chugga Choo Choo”
Speaking of songs that would go well with a Transportation theme or music lesson plan…
Chugga Chugga Choo Choo is a train movement song that can explore train movements (arms moving in a circular motion by your side) and movements such as jumping or dancing.
5- Going On A Picnic Music lesson plan
Need a lesson plan for the last weeks of school? Here are the songs for the Going on a Picnic music lesson plan. And more importantly, HOW I use them. Find the lesson plan here.
6- A Rocket Ship Movement Song: “Rock It While You Rocket!”
“Rock It While You Rocket”, which is a song about space and a rocket ship waiting to blast into the sky! Kids jump, dance, shake, swim, stop, etc. and pretend they are a rocket while they wait to get ready to blast-off! 🚀 Find the post here.
