Making friends is one of the most important skills in early-childhood. Not only is it important for kids to make social connections, but building friendships help kids develop emotional, social and self-regulation skills.
How can we help kids develop friendships as music therapists and music educators?
We can provide encouragement and opportunities within the shared music spaces for kids to interact with peers and/or learn about ways to build & strengthen social connections.
We can teach or reinforce these skills through active music making experiences (like playing/sharing instruments), reading singable books about friendship, or singing and discussing songs about what it means to be a friend.
